March Fitness Challenge

The third annual Jack Murphy Foundation March Fitness Challenge is now in Week 3 !! We are excited to continue this tradition of honoring Jack during his birthday month by focusing on fitness, the outdoors, and community.

The month-long challenge kicked off on Sunday, March 1. While participation is free, we ask that everyone sign up this year so we can track our community's engagement. Even if you’re just joining us now, we’d love to have you participate.

Jack was a true fitness enthusiast spending hours working out at the Boston Sports Club and UClub and watching workout videos on YouTube. Each week of the challenge is inspired by his workout style. The goals are designed to be adaptable for all fitness levels. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with Jack’s memory by pushing ourselves and staying motivated together.

New for this year:

- Strava Group: Join the "Jack Murphy Fitness Challenge" on the free Strava app to track our collective progress. Let’s see how many miles and workouts we can complete for Jack!

- In-Person Event: Save the date for a casual gathering to celebrate the conclusion of the challenge on Tuesday, March 31 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the South End of Boston, more details to follow.

Prizes:

We will award 12 prizes throughout March, with three winners selected each week. Two winners will be chosen from photo submissions sent via email or social media, and a third will be selected from the Strava group leaderboard. Winners will receive free Jack Murphy Foundation swag of your choice!

Trail clean up and bench dedication in honor of Jack in Sunapee, NH

On Sunday, October 16, 2022 about 40 of Jack’s friends, family and neighbors gathered at Indian Cave in Sunapee, NH to clean up and re-blaze the community’s two hiking trails and dedicate a bench in Jack’s honor for all to enjoy at the lookout point over the valley at the top of the trail.  The bench inscription reads, “Jack’s love of the outdoors was born in these Sunapee woods.”  Jack and his family have been renting at Indian Cave for the winter ski season since 2008 and Jack spent many hours in the woods building forts and hiking with friends.  Remnants of Jack’s adventures exist throughout the woods and a sign reading “Jack’s Camp Solitude” has been placed at a favorite spot and his initial were recently found by his mom carved into a tree at one of his many forts.  Many thanks to the Indian Cave community especially Barry Gutwillig and Marci Cincotta, Mary and Peter Gens, Morgan and Loretta Dewey, and Lynne Wardlaw at Deck Dock Home & Garden for supporting this effort in honor of Jack.
